Acne - Health & Fitness

Acne, spot, plook ? whatever you call them, a red pimple can make others around you make a double take although not for the right reasons. The impact of acne towards self-esteem seems to be proportionate to its size and extensiveness. Irrespective of size and spread, acne is immensely bothersome.Normally, the sebaceous gland produces natural oils to keep the skin of the face moist and supple. When the hair follicle to which the gland is attached becomes blocked, oil builds up and acne results.

Acne starts off as non-inflamed whiteheads and blackheads. These comedones are actually the body?s way of draining the excess sebum. However, when they are manipulated or picked constantly with dirty fingers they become inflamed.Acne can also be caused by infectious processes brought about by certain species of bacteria. In addition, people who have high levels of stress often present with severe or frequent bouts of acne.

Hormonal imbalance and family history are also predisposing factors which dictate how frequent and severe the eruptions are or how early they appear in a person?s life. Management of acne involves multiple approaches. Initially, to prevent exacerbation, antibiotics may be taken or applied to the skin. For those who have frequent bouts with acne, lab tests may be required to ascertain hormonal involvement which will become a basis and evaluation tool for hormonal correction therapies. Cosmetic and surgical interventions are usually employed last. However, these merely address the problem as they arise. Prevention is always better than cure, and the same is true for acne.

Diet with high carbohydrate content and high glycemic index has been correlated with acne. Hence, acne diets in the simplest sense are diets which include low carbohydrate, low fat food items. It seems that old wives? tales linking the consumption of nuts and chocolates don?t seem too superstitious after all. A person following an acne diet should take in more lean protein, vegetables and fruits. However, it would be wrong to assume that by following these acne diets you become impervious to pimples.

It helps by way of preventing recurrent bouts and making eruptions less severe. Aside from following an acne diet, also make it a habit to wash your face with mild soap and water before retiring to bed. Adhering to regular exercise, whether through running or going to the gym can help by decreasing your stress levels and acne breakouts. Freedom from acne does not happen overnight, it forgoing certain pleasures and embracing a healthier lifestyle.

Whether it is a solitary pimple or an outbreak, acne is a pain ? figuratively and literally speaking. Adhering to an acne diet can help reduce the frequency and severity of these eruptions. To learn more about acne and its treatments, click here acne diets
