GM won't advertise on next Super Bowl, report says

By msnbc.com staff

Facebook is not the only place GM is unfriending.

The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that the world's largest automaker does not plan to run ads on the next Super Bowl as it revamps its global marketing operations to cut about $2 billion from its budget.

The Journal interviewed GM's marketing chief Joe Ewanick, who said that while the Super Bowl ads are effective, they have become too expensive to justify the cost. The?newspaper said that ads for?Super Bowl XLVII could hit?$3.8 million for a 30-second spot, according to buyers.?CBS will be broadcasting the next NFL championship game.?

Earlier this week, The Journal also reported that GM?would drop paid advertising on Facebook, which had its market debut on Friday, saying that it??"determined their paid ads had little impact on consumers."???
