The Importance of Personal Organization | ArticloPedia

Life can be a pain in the ass sometimes especially when there are so many things to do in so little time. Learning the art of personal organization is a great way to manage a hectic life without all the stress. Here are some helpful tips for better personal management.

1. Make organization a long-term commitment. Many people confuse cleaning with organizing. While both are related, there is a major difference between the two and that is upkeep. Cleaning can be a ?one time, big time? approach while organization is a continuous process.

2. Stay simple. Personal organization need not be complicated. The reason why most people fail to accomplish tasks is that they set very high goals to be accomplished in a very short span of time. When people fail, their drive to continue organizing wavers and they eventually quit. Setting simple tasks like getting groceries or reading twenty pages of a favorite book can be a great achievement for the day. Finishing many simple tasks each day gives a great feeling of self-accomplishment and helps encourage a person to maintain self-organization.

3. Make planning a habit. Planning is essential to help a person achieve all of his set goals for the day. Making plans also prevents a person from doing random tasks that will eventually waste time.

4. Do not make a habit of procrastination. This happens to everyone, it is just that some people are able to resist it while others cannot. Procrastination is a big productivity killer. Finishing a two-hour work without procrastination gives a person more time to finish other tasks thus, accomplishing more each day.

5. Learn to manage stress. Stress can prevent a person from being productive. Most people do not know that stress is mostly self-inflicted. This is both a good thing and bad thing because this means that an individual have a choice whether to let stress affect them or not.

6. One does not need to be perfect at all time. While striving to be perfect has its merits, it is not healthy to be perfect all the time. Perfectionism means higher expectations, more pressure, and more stress. Sometimes, it is better to just give your best and let God do the rest.

7. Distance your self from distractions. Finishing tasks are delayed when a person gets distracted. Giving in to distractions invites procrastination. Moreover, procrastination leads to unfinished tasks and wasted time.

8. Take advantage of post-its and digital calendars to help organize tasks and deadlines. Almost all of the things that people use today have integrated organizer that makes personal organization much easier and convenient.

9. Take short breaks. Taking a break after accomplishing a task will rejuvenate the mind and body to help tackle a new task.

10. Rewarding one?s self after completing a day?s task will help motivate an individual to continue this practice the next day. These rewards need not be grand. It could be eating a favorite food or watching a favorite movie.
