Annie@SHVC: Hello Noel, how long have you been vegan?
Noel the Vegan Fitness Star: I have been vegan for over 3 years already. Loving every bit of it. Before I was mainly vegetarian.

Annie@SHVC: So what made you take the first step?
Noel the Vegan Fitness Star: Basically the only thing left I had on my diet that wasn?t vegan were eggs. So after a talk with a friend I just left them. I said if I really love animals I shouldn?t consume anything from them. Also after seeing so much people in my family and in society how sick they are. Working one summer in a nursing home in Uptown Manhattan made me say to myself I should take my life more seriously. It is sad when you grow old and you are sick, and you barely walk, and can?t even shower or cut your own meals. I decided I would take my health to the next level. I combine the vegan diet with daily exercising to prevent sickness and to stay in shape and not fat.

Annie@SHVC: I agree, this is also one of the reasons I went vegan. A lot of people used to think vegans are thin and fragile, you?re a proof that vegans can also be strong and fit, obviously! Can you give us an example of you daily food plan?
Noel the Vegan Fitness Star: Unlike the diet you see being promoted in the media, and all fitness magazines of eating 6 meals a day. I try to eat 3 meals and no more than 4 meals a day. I also do intermittent fasting, and I workout empty stomach in the morning. I get asked a lot what I eat in a day, but each day I don?t have the same meals. I eat differently. I would share what I had today so people can have an idea. After my workout I ate pumpkin with guacamole and a cup of coconut water. Lunch was oatmeal with almond milk, date syrup, cinnamon, and 2 bananas. Snack was more bananas. Then dinner was quinoa rice, with veggies, avocado and hummus. I believe that if you train real hard, and you just eat 3 meals you will gain muscles. People don?t need to follow the lies in the media and fitness magazines.

Annie@SHVC: I also notice that you eat a lot of raw food, fresh veggies and fruits, do you think it is expensive to maintain such a diet? Actually this is one of the concerns of many people who want to be vegans, especially raw vegans.
Noel the Vegan Fitness Star: I don?t think a vegan diet is expensive. Not where I live. I live in New York city, you find fruits from the street vendors not expensive at all. In trader joe?s a lot of sales and the food is not expensive. But if food where you live is a bit more expensive just look at it this way: food is medicine: either pay to stay healthy or get sick and pay to look for help.

Annie@SHVC: One of my trainer friend asked me once about protein intake, he said if he were to rely on protein from plants, he has to eat a whole lot, and his life is all wasted eating, what is your opinion?
Noel the Vegan Fitness Star: I believe anyone who trains real hard either outdoors, or in the gym. If you train hard you will see results no matter what. If you want bigger muscles you don?t need to eat more or buy supplements, you just need to lift heavier.

Annie@SHVC: Wow this is good to know! So do you have any tips to share with us who don?t need to lose weight but build more?
Noel the Vegan Fitness Star: The key to building muscle is consistency. Everyone wants to rush things. People want things the fast way, that?s why most people cheat by taking drugs and supplements. But building muscle takes time, hard work and consistency. If anyone wants to build muscle I would say not to rush and just workout 5 or 6 days a week. Do the basic exercises such as: Pull ups, Push ups, Deadlift, Squats, Bench press, Crunches, Sit Ups, Lunges, Sprints and they will see results. All you need to do is be consistent with your workout. Don?t compare yourself to other people, just workout for yourself to look good and be healthy. Hard work does pay off.

Annie@SHVC: Yeah, action is the most important. Last but not least, I do enjoy all the positive messages that you share on your Facebook! Could you talk about positive energy and its impact on people?s mind and their life?
Noel the Vegan Fitness Star: I love to surround myself with people with positive energy. I believe when you think good thoughts and share your positive energy with others you help them think positive. You bring light to their dark day. I get messages of people saying how they love what I post and they love my positive messages. Knowing that I make them smile or help them think positive makes me smile. We forget the joy of giving, So I myself enjoy giving kindness and love to everyone else.
