Fencing Teams Ready for Ivy Meet - GoPrincetonTigers.com ...

The one weekend that will decide the Ivy League fencing championships is this Saturday and Sunday in New Haven, Conn.

Both Princeton teams enter the championships at No. 2 in the nation in the latest CollegeFencing360.com poll, the official ranking used by the NCAA. Harvard, at No. 7, at Penn, at No. 9, are the two other Ivy teams in the top-10 poll, and the remaining four programs are all receiving votes. On the men's side, Harvard is No. 3, while Penn is No. 7 and Yale is No. 10, with Columbia and Brown receiving votes to complete the full list of six Ivy programs.

Princeton's women are the two-time defending champions of the event and will be going for their third straight title, which the program also achieved from 1999-2001. The Tiger women have won 13 straight matches at the Ivy League round-robins going back to 2009.?

All six All-Ivy League honorees for the women are back this year, including first-team epeeist Hannah Safford, second-team foilists Eve Levin and Hyun-Kyung Yuh, first-team saberist Eliza Stone and second-team saberists Diamond Wheeler and Joanna Cichomski.

Harvard is the defending men's champion while Princeton finished fourth behind Yale and Penn. ?The Tiger men were Ivy champions two seasons ago.

Returning for the men's team are two of Princeton's three All-Ivy League honorees from last year, including the meet's Most Outstanding Performer, foilist Alexander Mills, and second team epeeist Jonathan Yergler.?

The meet will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday with Princeton's women taking on Cornell, followed by both Princeton teams taking on Penn at 12:30 p.m., and Harvard at 4:15 p.m. Sunday, Princeton will start against Yale at 10 a.m., followed by Columbia at 11:30 and Brown at 1:45 p.m.
