Gaming Revenues Up In 2011 ? CBS Las Vegas

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) ? Nevada casinos have won nearly $856 million in December, marking a 2 percent increase compared with the same month a year ago.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board says Thursday that the Las Vegas Strip?s $518 million in winnings were up 3.6 percent. Revenue was $30.9 million in downtown Las Vegas, which is 10.7 percent down.

Reno casinos brought in $41.7 million in December for a 10.2 percent increase in revenue, while South Lake Tahoe gained 6 percent.

State officials say they collected $31.7 million in taxes based on December revenues. That?s a nearly 6 percent increase in collections compared with the year earlier.

Nevada casino revenue in the last six months of 2011 was up 1.2 percent compared with the same period in 2010.
